Solarpark Nottuln
Solarpark Nottuln
The largest Solarpark in Northern Germany at its time
In 2008, the municipality of Nottuln in Westphalia envisioned a solar park to harness an open space and enlisted Günther Sabeck for planning and design. The objective was to create an economically viable solar facility with maximum profitability. This goal held particular significance as it was a political project, and the opposition consistently asserted its impracticality. Against all odds, a 1.2 MWp solar installation emerged, featuring First Solar modules and SMA central inverters, chosen for their economic efficiency. At the time of implementation it was the largest Solarpark in Northern Germany.
The economic viability calculations were conservative, a decision that proved astute in the subsequent years. The installation consistently outperformed projections, generating between 5% and 10% more than forecasted annually. This success not only validated the project’s feasibility but also effectively silenced the opposition, year after year.
